The six-hour events are introductory
level adventure races, aimed at new competitors, those as
training for bigger events, and at secondary school competitors.
Almost anyone can compete, providing they have a moderate
level of fitness and can read a map. Registration, the race
and prize-giving all take place on a Saturday so it won’t
take up your whole weekend!
The courses are secret and will not be revealed
until the morning of the event at race registration. In most
of our events the courses will be “clover-leaf”
in design, meaning that there will be one centralised transition
point and no support crew are required - although you are
welcome to bring along a cheer squad!
Race disciplines include:
• introductory navigation – you will need a basic
understanding of map reading and navigation
• trekking
• mountain biking
• water skills (kayaking or something similar), all
kayaking equipment will be supplied.
• special activity – in some event locations we
may add in an alternative discipline e.g archery, ropes or
gumboot throwing….
The 6 hour adventure races will be run
in parallel with the existing 24 hour events, commencing at
10am on the Saturday morning (unless advised otherwise).
Auckland July 24 2004
Christchurch August 28 2004
Wellington September 11 2004
Dunedin October 23 2004
Teams will be notified of the registration
point via e-mail or the website news board prior to the race.
Register your interest now by emailing richard.anderson@arrowa.co.nz
Teams will register on the Saturday morning
of the event between 8:30am and 9:30am. The course will be
issued in a sealed envelope and once the siren goes at 10am
the adventure will begin. Prize giving will be held shortly
after the event at the registration area.
Two and four person teams only may compete
in 6 hour events. Teams may be mixed (contain men and women),
or open (men only, or women only). Only four person mixed
teams will be eligible for series titles.
Secondary school category. We require that all
competitors be aged 15yrs or older. Teams must nominate which
school they represent if the team is made up competitors from
more than one school. In some circumstances we will consider
allowing younger competitors entry, providing a competent
adult ‘minder’ accompanies them.
All teams will be required to show a NZ
approved bike helmet at registration and supply their own
mountain bikes. All water activity equipment will be supplied.
Water and special activities will be optional, however time
penalties will apply if missed.
The entry fee is $85 per person.
To enter simply download the entry
form or contact Richard Anderson on (64) 027 2085198 or

Please read and adhere to the race
regulations.
1. How fit should we be?
You do not need to be ultra-fit, the fitter you are the easier
you will complete the event.
2. How long does the slowest team generally
take?
I expect the event to be won in 3 hours with the slowest team
taking approximately 7 hours.
3. Do we need a support vehicle? If not where
do we leave the bikes?
At present the events courses will be designed so you will
be able to compete without support vehicles or support crews.
All transitions will be in one centralised location.
4. I understand that kayaks will be supplied?
The water activity may be kayaking or something completely
different. Unless advised otherwise, you will not have to
supply any water/kayaking equipment.
5. Can you walk the trekking leg?
Absolutely.
6. What is the likelihood of getting lost?
Good, but only for a short while. I doubt there will be many
teams who don't get lost for a short time. Its all about finding
yourself again. We will have tail-end-charlies if you get
lost we will find you before it gets dark!
7. Where can we get entry forms?
You can print the entry form off this website and post it
in to the address on the form. Download
entry form.
8. Do I require any maps ?
All race maps will be supplied in your registration pack.
